Reading

The girl may love to read as much as her mom does. Our first chapter book was Little House on the Prairie. Then we read Stuart Little. Now we are reading The Velveteen Rabbit.

The girl is also loving this collection of poems:

I had a copy of this when I was little, so when I saw it at Goodwill I had to grab it! I can’t believe how much the girl loves this book! It’s a little “old fashioned”

I’m amazed that she laughs in the right spots and follows the “older” language. She loves the art, and the one with the boy rolling a hoop in particular.

I guess it makes sense she would love this book. My Nanny gave me my copy. The girl is named after the right person, that’s for sure!

Learning

The girl is learning so much, and recently we have been learning some very grown-up things.

1. Always be kind – share with your friends…

20130121-205719.jpg
…and only stick out your tongue if you’re catching a snowflake.

20130121-210013.jpg
2. Winning is fun, but it isn’t necessary.

20130121-210138.jpg
3. Practice is not always fun…

20130121-210240.jpg

20130121-210249.jpg
…but you can be happy with the results!

20130121-210442.jpg
3. Never take yourself too seriously!

2012 – What a year!

20130103-203521.jpg
We started the year with an amazing day watching Snowy Owls! The girl loved using her new binoculars!

20130103-203547.jpg
The girl started cello lessons, and we discovered she’s a real ham!

20130103-203626.jpg
We celebrated her 3rd birthday “on the farm”

20130103-203756.jpg
We enjoyed so many fun times with friends through the year!

20130103-210240.jpg
The girl was brave as she endured her first surgery of the year and the tethered cord was released.

20130103-210426.jpg
We celebrated the “release” at the beach!

20130103-210520.jpg
The girl had fun with soccer and swimming!

20130103-210618.jpg
The real cello was earned and beautiful music ensued.

20130103-210725.jpg
Summer was for picnics, camping and toasted marshmallows!

20130103-210909.jpg
Our family grew…

20130103-210951.jpg
The girl’s imagination bloomed.

20130103-211100.jpg
She started preschool!

20130103-211135.jpg
We now have an art gallery, and enough art to start new exhibits weekly!

20130103-211234.jpg
The girl’s colorful personality was perfect for our colorful fall.

20130103-211453.jpg
We gave thanks for good friends on the West Coast!

20130103-211524.jpg
We stayed home for Christmas and missed out on the Texas White Christmas. It was sweet anyway!

20130103-211714.jpg
We sent 2012 out with a bang! We hope that we stay away from hospitals in 2013!!!

Happy New Year! Peace, Joy, and good health to you this year!

She’s Back!

What a difference pain control makes!!!
The girl ate 5 muffins!

20130102-184714.jpg
Drank water!

20130102-184751.jpg
Made a huge mess!!!

20130102-184821.jpg

20130102-184833.jpg
Tonight she’s playing with Amos!

I’m very relieved!
(Sorry the photo quality is poor…haven’t had time to use my real camera)

Goodbye to 2012

…and hopefully to hospitals! Unfortunately, we had to spend the last evening of the year in the ER getting rehydrated.
The waiting room was insane!!! The girl managed to make a new friend, though.

20121231-213911.jpg
A couple more “pokies” and an IV were necessary.

20121231-214040.jpg
This brave girl still found a smile for me!

20121231-214133.jpg
Here is to good health in 2013!

Still Singing

The girl’s surgery was a success! They removed both tonsils and adenoids. She’s such a trooper! We told her about the surgery this morning, and she took the news well. She just asked for a new toy car in exchange for any “pokeys”…which to the girl means needles or enemas. We agreed to her terms!

20121226-190814.jpg
The surgery went without a hitch, and she has been in a pretty good mood considering.

20121226-191051.jpg
I did get the stink eye a few times

20121226-191220.jpg
She’s been hanging out with Nonnie and Poppie – we are so glad they are here. Especially since Poppie brought the chocolate pudding and Nonnie sings with the girl. They make songs out of anything they hear…beeping monitors and all.

Now everyone is gone. We read 4 chapters of Stuart Little and she finally fell asleep

Good Night! Sleep Tight, Brave Girl!

20121226-191806.jpg

whoosh! what a season!

It seems that the Christmas season flies by every year. The excitement grabs us and spins us along until we sit in a pile of wrapping paper. This year I’m astounded that this is the girl’s 4th Christmas! Time has really flown…

Now we will try to slow it all down and celebrate Emmanuel (God is certainly with us).
