The portrait this week (not many to choose from) is accompanied by the girl’s first poem (to my knowledge). She just came in the room and said “mommy, peat after me!” Then she proceeded to produce this poem (I promise I have written it down exactly as she said it)
“the airplanes flew up in the sky
they bonked their noses, then they cried
they couldn’t see so down they fell
into a mud puddle
and then they were stuck“

The portrait for week 34 captures one of my favorite expressions – Healthy skepticism!
The girl loves soccer and really wanted a jersey from Peru. The portrait this week is of the girl in her Sporting Cristal jersey. I think it’s a pretty popular team because I saw a lot of these jerseys…but the team is from Lima, not Moyobamba (where I was). I think it is the new “favorite shirt”
I’m leaving for Peru tomorrow, so I’m early with the portrait this week. She’s all smiles!

We are still in the hills! This was taken in art ally. More pictures to come from other Black Hills adventures soon (probably a better portrait too), but I love her expression. She was trying to understand why people painted on the walls (and doors, and garbage cans…)
