Minuet No. 2
Book One!
The girl has been practicing for weeks to get ready for today!

There are seventeen pieces in Suzuki book one, and she had to play them all for her book recital. Her Nonnie accompanied her on the piano, and Poppie and our good friends joined us (her mom and dad) to listen.

We were all very proud of her! The girl has learned so many things…but her teacher summed it up today by saying “now you know how to play the cello!”
Here are a few highlights:
Minuet in C Bach
The Happy Farmer Schumann
We are very proud of our girl!!!
Fun at Blue Lake
Year two at Blue Lake did not disappoint!

The girl had so much fun! We hustled to class three times a day.

She learned all kinds of amazing things, like how to be a unicorn.

How to make the cello sound like a cricket, a pig, a mouse, a frog, and a cow.

She also learned a lot of music, and loved playing Minuet in C

Playing with her friends was a highlight.

Other highlights included:
Scooter Riding, Critter-hunting (sometimes at the same time)

Eating her very first ice cream cone:

The music was the best part! Lessons and learning Minuet No. 2

Playing the concert on the big stage is a great way to end!

The girl played her cello for a wedding yesterday. She did such a good job!!! She played come thou fount of every blessing just before the grandparents were seated. Then she played as part of an ensemble. They played/sang You’re beautiful by Phil Wickham. She did great! She had a little solo during the intro, then played along with the chorus for the rest of the piece.
The wedding was in the mountains of Virginia. It was very beautiful. Finding a flat spot for the cellos was the hardest part!!!
The rehearsal was hard for the girl, but I was really proud of how well she listened and worked with the others. She was such a pro!
The wedding was at sunrise, so it was dark (and cold)!!! Tuning was hard…and honestly, no one stayed in tune. The girl wasn’t sure she wanted to play her cello if it wasn’t in tune…I had to convince her that she was close enough.

The music was great, the sun came up, and we were all blessed to see the new start for a wonderful family!
“It’s my first dream”
The girl has really been working hard on her cello. She practices every morning and has been enjoying learning piece after piece! She’s been learning fancy bowing techniques (slurs and hook bows), and shifting! She is on the last piece in book one, and loves to tell people that she is learning Bach.

In addition to all of her usual work, the girl has been working hard to prepare for a wedding! She’s going to play for our good friend’s wedding in the mountains of Virginia next weekend. Today, while we were practicing, she told me that playing in a wedding “is (her) first dream coming true!”

I’m sure it will be wonderful! Let’s hope the cello makes it through all of the air travel!

Blue Lake
The girl and I had our first experience at Blue Lake last week. It was so much fun and the girl learned a lot! Most importantly she was encouraged.
She had three classes each day. Her teachers had lots of great games to help her work on techniques and understand style.

Ms. Andrea worked with the girl on her cello hand so that her fingers each had 2 bumps and were on top of her strings.

Pretty close!
She also learned “secret one”…in other words some fine motor skills that let her move one finger back and forth between strings.

The girl made so many new friends at camp!

I asked the girl what her favorite things were about Blue Lake?
Bunk Beds

It was a wonderfully exhausting 3 days!!
I’m sure we are going back!
